AdFolks team of industry experts have devised domain-specific solutions for the airline sector. This case study takes a look at the airport specific web applications security problem and how it was addressed with cutting edge Azure PaaS migration.
An Airline customer which is the primary airport serving in Dubai carries more than 70 million passengers back and forth through 7500 weekly scheduled flights. The airport has a legacy web application delivery system integrated to carry out its operations. In order to meet the growing demand for digital efficiencies in airport operations, it was looking to overhaul the existing security of its web application systems. It needed to assess ways in which the traditional application delivery system can be migrated to a better system. Towards this, it was searching for a best-fit technology partner that can deliver a robust, scalable, and hack-proof app deployment system. At the same time, it needed to streamline its IT budgets and hence was looking to bring down cost overhead as an outcome of the migration to a newer app deployment technology.
At AdFolks, we have designed and deployed a comprehensive strategy for application modernization. We took into consideration not only the current workloads but also the impact of scaled up operations at the airport in the future. The new solution also incurs time and cost savings so that it can be brought up to speed in no time. This way, the airport can start reaping benefits from day one of deployment. For this we have implemented the practice to enable clients to deploy applications to Azure PaaS environment as a part of the application modernization initiative. This was done at 50% lesser deployment time than other comparable options.
We also factored in the need for integrating existing applications into the new Azure PaaS. We carried out a thorough assessment of the existing features and functionalities of the applications being used. We also devised a way to maintain the same rigorous adherence to various security and compliance norms, without impacting the performance of the system.
For this, we first had a look at the applications to be migrated – i.e. PaloAlto Networks security setup and F5 WAF and checked its compatibility with Azure PaaS. After a detailed readiness assessment, we made the transition of the applications to the new age cloud environment on Azure PaaS.
The network and security components adheres to the same strict on-premise compliance framework by implementing the region’s first-of-its-kind Paloalto and F5 WAF architecture to successfully integrate with Azure.
We also tested the new integration thoroughly so that any issues can be resolved before the new system starts being fully operational. This provides the client with a robust web deployment of applications to Azure PaaS, complete with enterprise grade secure framework.
The client is now able to implement a strategic transition from legacy on-premise systems to modern day and cost efficient cloud based environment on Microsoft Azure. The planned movement enables the client to carry out its operations without being impacted by a downtime. A rigorous readiness assessment prior to the movement has ensured that the application modernization was carried out at a 50% reduced time to deployment.
The transition itself is conducted to deliver stated objectives. Once live, the new system is able to deliver phenomenal operations but at a lower cost overhead. The client has reported 19% reduction in operating costs, primarily enabled by the lower licensing costs brought about by the new PaaS platform that runs on Microsoft Azure.
With the new cloud based environment moving away from on-premise setup, the client can avail dual gains of faster productivity as well as upgraded scalability potential. The client also benefits from the seamless integration of existing Paloalto and F5 WAF solutions into the Azure PaaS cloud environment. This ensures that the on-premise security compliance policies are extended to the cloud environment. The client continues delivering value in its business with the help of enterprise grade security and strict adherence to on-premise security compliance but on a more cost-effective Azure PaaS.
